IELTS
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an exam used by universities and colleges in Canada to assess the English language proficiency of international students. The minimum score required for admission into a Canadian university or college is a 6.5 band overall, with each band score not lower than 6. This score is required for admission into popular institutions in Canada, from bachelor programs to postgraduate and some master programs.
The IELTS exam consists of four components: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Each component is graded on a scale of 0 to 9, with 9 being the highest score. In order to reach the required score of 6.5 overall, the candidate must score 6 in each of the four components. The IELTS exam is used to ensure that international students possess the necessary English language skills to be successful in their studies in Canada.
TOEFL
The TOEFL® (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test is a widely accepted English language assessment for non-native speakers of English in all corners of the world. In Canada, the TOEFL® test is accepted by most universities and colleges as a requirement for admission. It is primarily used to assess the English language proficiency of non-native speakers who wish to pursue higher education in the United States of America.
The TOEFL® test has been designed to measure the English language proficiency of non-native English speakers in all four language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. It is administered in a computer-based format and the test takers are assessed on their ability to use and understand everyday English in academic, professional, and social contexts.
PTE
The Pearson Test of English (PTE) is becoming increasingly popular among international students who wish to study abroad. This is due to the growing number of Canadian universities and colleges that accept PTE scores as a proof of English language proficiency.
The PTE has several advantages over tests such as the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The test can be completed in less than three hours, and results are provided in less than five days. This makes it a more convenient option than the IELTS or TOEFL, which can take up to two weeks for results to be released.
The PTE is also more affordable than the IELTS and TOEFL, with a fee of $195 USD compared to $240 USD for the IELTS and $170 USD for the TOEFL. Furthermore, the PTE is more adaptable, allowing students to adjust the difficulty level of the test according to their proficiency.

Useful facts
Diversity
Canada is renowned for its multiculturalism. This is reflected in the fact that more than one in five Canadians were born outside the country – making Canada one of the most multicultural places in the world.
Language
Canada is a bilingual nation with two official languages: English and French. The English-speaking population is known as anglophones, while the French-speaking population is known as francophones. English and French have been the official languages of Canada since 1969, when the Official Languages Act was passed by the Canadian Parliament.
Tuition Fees
International student tuition fees in Canada are an expense that can be expensive for many families, especially when compared to other countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. However, Canada is still known to be much more affordable than these other countries when it comes to international student tuition fees. This is largely due to the fact that Canadian universities are publicly funded, meaning that the government contributes to the cost of university fees, making them more affordable for international students.
Scholarships
Scholarships for international students in Canada are plentiful, making it easier for students from all over the world to pursue their studies in the country. Entrance scholarships are the most common type of scholarship available to international students in Canada. These scholarships are offered by educational institutions upon acceptance and are based on academic performance.
Student Support
Universities and colleges in Canada recognise that international students face unique challenges when transitioning to life in a new country. As a result, universities and colleges provide a range of support services to help international students succeed.
At the center of these support services is the university or college’s international student office. This office typically provides visa and health insurance support, upskilling workshops, and advice on adjusting to life in Canada.
In addition to the international student office, universities and colleges provide a range of campus-wide support services. These include mentorship programs, mental health services, academic accommodations, language workshops, housing support, and employment support.
On-Campus Accommodation
On-campus housing is a popular option for students attending Canadian universities and colleges. It offers convenience, security, and a sense of community not found in off-campus living. For students coming from abroad, on-campus housing can provide a much-needed sense of security and familiarity in an unfamiliar place.
The majority of institutions in Canada offer on-campus housing for students. Many universities and colleges reserve student residences for first-year students. This allows students to become accustomed to the campus and to learn about the resources available to them. It also allows them to develop relationships with their peers and faculty members.
Work While You Study
As an international student in Canada, you have the opportunity to work while studying at a designated learning institution (DLI). However, it is important to be aware of the restrictions and regulations surrounding working off-campus.
In order to be eligible to work off-campus, you must be enrolled full-time at a DLI. This means that you must take a minimum of 60% of a full course load, or 40% if you are an ESL student. You will also need to have a valid study permit. Your study permit may include conditions that allow you to work off-campus. It is important to read your study permit carefully and be aware of the conditions regarding work.
If you are eligible to work off-campus, you will be able to work up to 20 hours per week during the academic semester. During the semester breaks, you will be able to work full-time. The hours you are allowed to work may be affected by the availability of jobs in your specific area.
Post-study Visas
Are you a student who has dreams of settling in Canada after you graduate? You’re not alone. A recent study found that three in 10 international students who came to Canada after 2000 have become permanent residents.
This is great news for those who want to make Canada their home. Canada is a vibrant, diverse, and welcoming country. It’s also one of the top study destinations for international students.
There are a few factors that make it possible for international students to become permanent residents in Canada. First, Canada offers a number of immigration programs that are specifically designed for international students. These programs make it easier for international students to apply for permanent residency.
Second, Canada has a number of opportunities for international students to gain work experience and gain professional qualifications. This helps international students gain the skills and qualifications they need to become successful in the Canadian job market.
