Entry Requirements

English Language

IELTS

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an exam used by universities and colleges in Canada to assess the English language proficiency of international students. The minimum score required for admission into a Canadian university or college is a 6.5 band overall, with each band score not lower than 6. This score is required for admission into popular institutions in Canada, from bachelor programs to postgraduate and some master programs.

The IELTS exam consists of four components: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. Each component is graded on a scale of 0 to 9, with 9 being the highest score. In order to reach the required score of 6.5 overall, the candidate must score 6 in each of the four components. The IELTS exam is used to ensure that international students possess the necessary English language skills to be successful in their studies in Canada.

TOEFL

The TOEFL® (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test is a widely accepted English language assessment for non-native speakers of English in all corners of the world. In Canada, the TOEFL® test is accepted by most universities and colleges as a requirement for admission. It is primarily used to assess the English language proficiency of non-native speakers who wish to pursue higher education in the United States of America.

The TOEFL® test has been designed to measure the English language proficiency of non-native English speakers in all four language skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. It is administered in a computer-based format and the test takers are assessed on their ability to use and understand everyday English in academic, professional, and social contexts.

PTE

The Pearson Test of English (PTE) is becoming increasingly popular among international students who wish to study abroad. This is due to the growing number of Canadian universities and colleges that accept PTE scores as a proof of English language proficiency.

The PTE has several advantages over tests such as the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The test can be completed in less than three hours, and results are provided in less than five days. This makes it a more convenient option than the IELTS or TOEFL, which can take up to two weeks for results to be released.

The PTE is also more affordable than the IELTS and TOEFL, with a fee of $195 USD compared to $240 USD for the IELTS and $170 USD for the TOEFL. Furthermore, the PTE is more adaptable, allowing students to adjust the difficulty level of the test according to their proficiency.
