Course Description

Overview

BA(HONS) Business and Human Resources course combined this dynamic discipline with core business studies, creating a dual-focus degree that opens all sorts of high-level career opportunities.
This course gives you an in-depth understanding of today’s businesses and the HR world. Students can explore organisational psychology, learn about employment law and key areas of HR including
employment relations, human resource development and performance management and reward.

The Qualifications have developed the learner’s ability to:
• Study the issues and trends in employment, both nationally and internationally.
• Examines the environment within which organisations operate and the role of marketing within the organisation.
• Understand the context within which marketing personnel work.
• Understanding of marketing are considered – segmentation; targeting and positioning; the product life cycle; the 4Ps; buyer behaviour

  • Entry Requirements
  • The qualification can be offered to Learners from age 18. The Learners need to ensure that they have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and assessment.

    English language requirements
    The Qualifications have been designed to be accessible without artificial barriers that
    restrict access and progression:
    • IELTS minimum 5.0- 6.5 overall with no fail.
    • Minimum 3A Levels or equivalent qualification.
    • Pass 5 GCSE subjects

    We consider applicants:
    • Who have demonstrated some ability and possess Qualifications at Level 3, for example, ‘A’ Levels or vocational awards.
    • Who have spent some time in an organisational role and wish to develop their careers further.
    • With professional experience looking to change careers through work-based learning.

  • Units & Assessment
  • • Principles of Marketing
    This initial marketing module, which assumes no prior knowledge of marketing, aims to introduce students to some of the key ideas of marketing and is suitable for both marketing and non-marketing students. It examines the environment within which organisations operate and the role of marketing within the organisation so that students can understand the context within which marketing personnel work, and the different activities which are carried out under the umbrella term of’marketing’.Concepts central to an understanding of marketing are considered – segmentation; targeting and positioning; the product life cycle; the 4Ps; buyer behaviour.

    • Introduction to Human Resource Management
    The module provides students with a series of academic skills and study strategies to underpin their subsequent studies. It is composed of several themes including communication, thinking and methods of enquiry, IT-literacy, numeracy and the nature of knowledge. These will allow students to effectively match problem-solving techniques to different scenarios. In doing so, students will be expected to operate in teams, reflect on their practice and recognise aspects for self-development and improvement.

    • Work and Organisations
    This module provides an introduction to the organising and managing of work in contemporary society. It incorporates a historical review of the emergence of large-scale organisations and of the structure, functioning and management of work organisations including. The nature and purpose of work organisations and the emergence of large-scale organisations, organisation design (structure and culture) and job design; organisation development; implications for the HR function. The management of work organisation: control; concepts and strategies; power, conflict and resistance.

    • Economics for Business
    This module aims to enable students to understand the economic context of modern business by introducing and developing an appreciation of the utility of economic approaches in studying the business environment. The basic tools and approaches which economists use; demand and supply and industry analysis, among others; will be introduced and applied to help understand the economic issues involved and the public policy which can be derived.

    • People and Organisations
    This module aims to provide students with an introduction to the key concepts in human resource management and behaviour in contemporary organisations. It will consider the micro context of human resource management, performance and development, equality and diversity and international human resource management, predominantly taking an organisational perspective but drawing on other disciplinary approaches where applicable.

    • Introduction to Business Operations

    The module objective is to provide a comprehensive introduction to the key operations of the business. Real-world examples will be used to develop the underlying business concepts. By the end of the module, the student should be able to describe and discuss the role of operations within the business across a range of industry sectors.

  • Career Development
  • This course gives you the opportunity to start developing your career through professional work-based learning. You will be paid UK minimum wage for a 20hour a week placement for the duration of your course, and will also be awarded an accredited Level 6 professional qualification from a UK awarding body.

  • Progression
    • On completion of your studies, you may be given a full-time graduate opportunity by your employer
    • You may wish to further your studies by taking on an academic masters programme or a level 7 professional qualification
    • You may also wish to start your own business through our enterprise education programme
