Overview

A law degree is a fantastic opportunity to study human relationships, investigate complex problems and understand the diverse structures that keep us functioning as a modern, evolving society. It’s a qualification that opens doors into a huge range of careers, giving you a deep, sought-after knowledge of the way, our legal world works today. The LLB (Hons) Law covers the seven foundations of legal knowledge required by the Bar Standards Board (for barristers) for entry onto the professional course. The LLB (Hons) is also recognised as a qualifying law degree for the
purposes of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (for solicitors)

The Qualifications have developed the learner’s ability to:

Explore contemporary issues as diverse as data protection, human rights, terrorism and cybercrime. Study human relationships, investigate complex problems and understand the diverse structures that keep us functioning as a modern, evolving society. Explore the English legal system, examining criminal, public and contract law. Explore property law, EU law and the law of torts – the civil wrongs that can damage people’s health, safety, property or prospects.

  • Entry Requirements
  • The qualification can be offered to Learners from age 18. The Learners need to ensure that they have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and assessment.

    English language requirements
    The Qualifications have been designed to be accessible without artificial barriers that restrict access and progression:
    • IELTS minimum 5.0- 6.5 overall with no fail.
    • Minimum 3A Levels or equivalent qualification.
    • Pass 5 GCSE subjects

    We consider applicants:
    • Who have demonstrated some ability and possess Qualifications at Level 3, for example, ‘A’ Levels or vocational awards.
    • Who have spent some time in an organisational role and wish to develop their careers further.
    • With professional experience looking to change careers through work-based learning.

  • Units & Assessment
  • • Contract Law
    This module will cover a variety of themes commencing with the formation of a contract, including offer, acceptance, consideration and privity of contract. The contents of the contract will also be explored and will include examination of conditions, warranties, express and implied terms, standard form contracts, exclusion clauses. Students will also be introduced to various vitiating factors such as misrepresentation, mistake, undue influence, duress, unconscionable bargains and inequality of bargaining power.

    • English Legal System and Research
    This module is designed to introduce students to the basic parameters of law. It establishes the foundations for successful undergraduate study within the School. The module provides a basis for understanding and conducting law and research and will provide an introduction to various common research methods and e-skills, along with more contemporary approaches such as the use of social media in legal research, both substantive and procedural.

    • Public Law
    This module examines the organs of government, from the monarch to the Prime Ministers and Ministers, Parliament, MPs and beyond, and we will examine the checks and balances put in place to ensure that those in political power do not abuse their position. The doctrine of separation of powers and its particular application in the context of the British Constitution will be considered.

    • Criminal Law
    This module considers the general principles of criminal liability in England and Wales: actus reus; mens rea; denials of an offence, general defences; inchoate offences; parties to a crime; and some of the most serious criminal offences (such as murder, manslaughter, nonfatal offences against the person, sexual offences and property offences). It also examines the social and legal constructions of crime and how these have varied historically and in different social contexts.

    • Property Law
    This module will provide students with knowledge and understanding of a range of real property law concepts and principles in England. This will allow you to develop an awareness and understanding of the areas of growth and reform in land law, in England. Through the course of the module, you will examine the detailed provisions of property law statutes and use them to support your application and analysis of land law.

  • Career Development
  • This course gives you the opportunity to start developing your career through professional work-based learning. You will be paid UK minimum wage for a 20hour a week placement for the duration of your course, and will also be awarded an accredited Level 6 professional qualification from a UK awarding body.

  • Progression
    • On completion of your studies, you may be given a full-time graduate opportunity by your employer
    • You may wish to further your studies by taking on an academic masters programme or a level 7 professional qualification
    • You may also wish to start your own business through our enterprise education programme
