Course Description

Overview

This Diploma is a teaching qualification which has a teaching/training practice requirement. It is an ‘in service’ qualification designed for those working or wishing to work as teachers/trainers in England. The objective of the qualification is to give the learner the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills needed to confirm occupational competence. This includes the planning and delivering of schemes of work and sessions, negotiation of individual goals, different teaching and learning strategies, communication issues and exploring a range of assessment practices.

Learners successfully completing this qualification will be eligible to progress to the status of Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS). This is conferred through a separate and subsequent process called professional formation and is administered by the Society for Education and Training (SET) which is the professional body for those working as teachers and trainers in the sector.

  • Entry Requirements
  • The qualification can be offered to Learners from age 19. The Learners need to ensure that they have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and assessment.

    English language requirements
    The Qualifications have been designed to be accessible without artificial barriers that restrict access and progression:
    • IELTS minimum 5.0- 6.5 overall with no fail.
    • Minimum 3A Levels or equivalent qualification.
    • Pass 5 GCSE subjects

    We consider applicants:
    • Who have demonstrated some ability and possess Qualifications at Level 4, for example, HNC or equivelant.
    • Who have spent some time in an organisational role and wish to develop their careers further.
    • With professional experience looking to change careers through work-based learning.

  • Units & Assessment
  • This qualification consists of 4 mandatory units plus 8 optional units.

    Group A Mandatory Units: 75 credits required

    • Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
    • Theories, principles and models in education and training
    • Developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
    • Wider professional practice in education and training

    Group B Optional Units: minimum 45 credits required

    • Develop and prepare resources for learning and development
    • Develop learning and development programmes
    • Equality and diversity
    • Evaluating learning programmes
    • Identify the learning needs of organisations
    • Manage learning and development in groups
    • Understanding and managing behaviours in a learning environment
  • Career Development
  • This course comes with practical on-the-job training in a role relating to your studies. You will be required to work with one of our employers for 20hours per week and will receive a part-time salary of GHC 1500 per month.

    The objective of this career development programme is to introduce you to a professional career and equip you with the relevant experience needed to secure a career.

    • On completion of your studies, you may be given a full-time graduate opportunity by your employer
    • You may wish to further your studies by taking on an academic Honours programme or a level 6 professional qualification
    • You may also wish to start your own business through our enterprise education programme
