Course Description

Overview

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge needed to manage practice and lead others in adult health and social care provision or in children and young people’s services.

  • Entry Requirements
  • The qualification can be offered to Learners from age 19. The Learners need to ensure that they have sufficient capability at the right level to undertake the learning and assessment.

    English language requirements
    The Qualifications have been designed to be accessible without artificial barriers that restrict access and progression:
    • IELTS minimum 5.0- 6.5 overall with no fail.
    • Minimum 3A Levels or equivalent qualification.
    • Pass 5 GCSE subjects

    We consider applicants:
    • Who have demonstrated some ability and possess Qualifications at Level 3, for example, A Level.
    • Who have spent some time in an organisational role and wish to develop their careers further.
    • With professional experience looking to change careers through work-based learning.

  • Units & Assessment
  • Group A – Shared Core & Mandatory

    • Use and develop systems that promote communication
    • Promote professional development
    • Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
    • Develop health and safety and risk management policies, procedures and practices in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
    • Work in partnership in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
    • Undertake a research project within services for health and social care or children and young people

    Group C – Children and Young People’s Management Pathway Mandatory Units

    • Understand children and young person’s development
    • Lead practice that supports positive outcomes for child and young person development
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the safeguarding of children and young people
    • Lead and manage a team within a health and social care or children and young people’s settings
    • Develop professional supervision practice in health and social care or children and young people’s work settings
    • Lead practice in promoting the well-being and resilience of children and young people

    Group H Optional – Management units

    Learners must take a minimum of 12 credits from this group.

    • Develop procedures and practice to respond to concerns and complaints
    • Recruitment and selection within health and social care or children and young people’s settings
    • Facilitate the development of effective group practice in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
    • Facilitate coaching and mentoring of practitioners in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
    • Manage induction in health and social care or children and young people’s settings
    • Facilitate change in health and social care or children and young people’s setting
    • Manage an inter-professional team in a health and social care or children and young people’s setting
    • Manage finance within own area of responsibility in health and social care or children and young people’s setting
    • Manage quality in health and social care or children and young people’s setting
    • Develop and evaluate operational plans for own area of responsibility
    • Manage physical resources

    Group I Optional – Knowledge Units (minimum 1 credit, maximum 6 credits)

    • Understand partnership working
    • Understand how to manage a team
    • Understanding professional supervision practice
    • Understand the process and experience of dementia
    • Understand physical disability
    • Understand the impact of acquired brain injury on individuals
    • Understand sensory loss
    • Principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability regarding sexuality and sexual health
    • Understand how to support individuals during last days of life
    • Understand Advance Care planning
    • End of life and dementia care
  • Career Development
  • This course comes with practical on-the-job training in a role relating to your studies. You will be required to work with one of our employers for 20hours per week and will receive a part-time salary of GHC 1500 per month.

    The objective of this career development programme is to introduce you to a professional career and equip you with the relevant experience needed to secure a career.

    • On completion of your studies, you may be given a full-time graduate opportunity by your employer
    • You may wish to further your studies by taking on an academic Honours programme or a level 6 professional qualification
    • You may also wish to start your own business through our enterprise education programme
